FIVE players who cut their teeth in Western Division are set to dazzle on rugby league’s biggest stage next month.
George Rose (Bathurst/Manly Sea Eagles), Timana Tahu (Bourke/Newcastle Knights) and Canberra Raiders trio Joel Thompson (Forbes), Blake Ferguson (Wellington) and Jack Wighton (Orange) will showcase their skills in the All Stars extravaganza at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on February 9.
Indigenous All Stars selectors – over 40,000 fans who voted on line – chose Rose, Thompson and Ferguson while coach Laurie Daley added the experienced former league/union international Tahu and impressive young Kangaroo Wighton.
It is a huge boost for Tahu who is aiming to add to his State of Origin and Kangaroos tally after returning to the NRL, while Orange junior Wighton has been tagged as a future star.
Keep an eye out when the cameras pan as local legends Ronnie “Rambo” Gibbs and Steve “Bear” Hall become Indigenous All Stars “sideline support team” specialists.
