The sixth season of Women’s League Tag kicks off with the annual Western Region Knockout next month.
Canowindra Tigers claimed the inaugural Western Challenge Cup Carnival at the home ground, Tom Clyburn Oval and will again host the event on Sunday, March 13.
Group XI teams will be trying to wrest the Cup from Group 10 clubs who have made it their own in recent years. Orange CYMS are two-time defending champions after Bathurst St. Pats win in 2012 and Orange Hawks the following year.
Dubbo Westside Rabbitohs and Parkes led the charge last year with the Dubbo team claiming the first Group XI trophy.
Country Rugby League Western Regional Manager Peter Clarke is glowing in his praise for the sport.
“League Tag has continued its rapid growth, the region having established League Tag competitions in Woodbridge Cup, Group 10, Group 11 and Lachlan District JRL in recent years.”
“There were more than 1000 participants in the west last season and we are anticipating that figure will grow by at least 25 percent this year.”
