Best Friends Pawever has been running for about 16 months now and in that time we have self-funded the majority of activities we have initiated, including the pens you see in the picture, down to kennels and bedding.
Along the way, we have been fortunate enough to have some very generous people help buy a large washing machine, donate food/toys etc. and give cash donations.
We are the only dog rescue in our area. We take in dogs who are no longer able to stay at their homes or potentially will be put to sleep and sometimes, we also have strays who find their way home via us.
We live in a rural setting where the sun shines almost every day of the year. We wanted to set up pens that were bigger than the pound use and for the dogs to feel grass beneath their feet.
It was a great idea to start and it worked, until the drought kicked in and we found ourselves with less and less grass.
Just recently, we were hit with storms and our pens flooded. We have made the choice that we would like to cement part of these pens, mostly, the part at the back so their beds remain dry and we can still have some grass in there (working on that part).
We don’t know the real cost of this exercise as yet, but definitely do not have the funds to organise this. It will run into the thousands.
Every cent and dollar counts! Every single one! We would be elated to see this happen for the dogs, they are the ones who benefit from this. They are the ones who will be able to stay dry or at least a little less wet when we get random storms come through. You can help!
