A simple bunch of bright yellow daffodils can do more than brighten a room – it can bring hope to locals facing cancer.

On Thursday, August 20, local florist Leeanne from Hot Poppyz will once again be selling fresh daffodils, with every dollar raised staying in Dubbo to support the Dubbo Cancer Centre at Dubbo Base Hospital.

This year's fundraiser holds special meaning for Leeanne, who is now on the road to recovery after recently receiving treatment and care at the Dubbo Cancer Centre herself.

Experiencing the kindness and dedication of the staff firsthand has made her determination to give back even stronger.

"Until you've walked through those doors, you don't truly understand how much the Dubbo Cancer Centre means to people," Leeanne said.

"The care, compassion and support I received was incredible, and this year's fundraiser is my way of saying thank you.

“If buying a bunch of daffodils helps make life a little easier for someone going through cancer, then every bunch sold is worth it."

Last year, Leeanne proudly donated $1600 to the centre, thanks to the generosity of the Dubbo community. She has been selling daffodils every year since 2013, making this year's fundraiser another chapter in her long-standing commitment to supporting local cancer care. This year, Leeanne has teamed up with Jenny from Fine Lines Hairdressing to help make the fundraiser even bigger.

Fresh bunches of daffodils will be available for $10 each, with collection from the grassed area outside Fine Lines Hairdressing in Welchman Street, opposite the TAFE. Pre-orders are welcome by calling (02) 6882 3389 or sending Fine Lines Hairdressing a direct message on social media.

Whether you're buying a bunch for yourself or someone you love, you'll be helping support local cancer patients while bringing a little sunshine into someone's day.
