Residents in the Goangra and Bugilbone regions along the Namoi River are being urged to stay vigilant and prepare for potential minor flooding, as water levels continue to rise slowly.
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) issued an advisory on Monday afternoon, June 2, warning that the Namoi River could reach minor flood levels at Bugilbone by Thursday, June 5, and at Goangra late this week or early next week.
The Namoi River at Goangra was at 4.71 metres on Monday afternoon and rising, with predictions indicating it may reach the minor flood threshold of 5.50 metres in the coming days. Similarly, at Bugilbone, the river measured 3.45 metres, expected to peak around the minor flood mark of 4.90 metres on Thursday.
Low-lying areas, including roads, bridges, crossings and unsealed roads, may be impacted by rising floodwaters.
The SES advises residents to monitor official warnings closely via the NSW SES online, ABC local radio, and Bureau of Meteorology updates.
Residents should prepare by raising valuable items and chemicals above anticipated flood heights, making alternate travel arrangements, and ensuring emergency plans are in place. Farmers are advised to relocate livestock, pumps and machinery to higher ground.
Authorities remind everyone to avoid floodwaters, never attempting to drive, walk or swim through them.
For emergency assistance, residents should contact NSW SES on 132 500, or Triple Zero (000) in life-threatening situations. Regular updates can be found at www.ses.nsw.gov.au or www.bom.gov.au/nsw.
