Emergency services are urging the public to avoid Pilliga National Park and surrounding areas as a bushfire continues to burn in the area.
The fire ignited near the Sandstone Caves at about 5pm on Wednesday following a storm. Rural Fire Service crews, supported by Orana Mid-Western Police District officers, have been battling the blaze since then.
Police said in a statement on Saturday that the fire had continued towards the Newell Highway near Airlands Trail, with sections of the highway closed as a precaution.
"As emergency services continue to attempt to extinguish the blaze, police are urging members of the public to avoid areas in and around the Sandstone Caves in the Pilliga National Park, Dandy, and the Newell Highway near Airlands Trail," the statement said.
No injuries have been reported, and no homes or buildings have been affected so far. Firefighters remain on the scene as efforts to contain the fire continue.
