The countdown is on to a community event in Narromine that is not to be missed.

Narromine Public School’s Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is preparing to host its biennial Market Fete this month – and the community is invited.

Offering an afternoon of disco-themed fun, food, shopping and entertainment, the highly anticipated event will be held on Thursday, September 17 from 3.00 pm to 5.30pm in the school grounds.

While the event will feature multiple class and stage-based stalls, there will also be 16 external stalls selling locally produced items, garden wares, sweets, cakes and much more. The P&C will run the canteen during the event, there will also be a barbecue, and Saltbush Lamb will be onsite selling their delicious lamb and gravy rolls, among other foodie treats on offer at the fete.

Entertainment will include a mini-sideshow alley, jumping castle, a 360-photo booth, music by the Narromine High band, a disco, and other activities (that may or may not involve throwing sponges at teachers) and much more.

Principal Denise Toohey said the school’s students have been actively involved in the planning and preparation for the fete, with the event used as a learning activity.

“It’s a great learning opportunity for the students to have them involved,” she said.

Supported by the teaching staff, who helped their students identify suitable themes, each class and stage will host and staff their own stall at the event. Students have been encouraged to be creative and consider what items will be sold at their stalls.

“The process has helped students develop their financial literacy,” Denise added.

While cash and card payments will be accepted by the private external stall holders, they will not be accepted at the student-run stalls at the fete.

“’Fete dollars’ will be exchanged for cash and card at a special window in our undercover area for use at the student stalls,” P&C representative Sarah Atchison said.

“We’re working hard to make this a great community event and encourage everyone to come along and have some fun with us,” she added.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to the school to purchase state of the art resources, Sarah said.

“Funds donated to the school will purchase 21st century resources including ‘whiteboard tables’,” Denise explained.

“They are amazing resources the children write on and the text can be erased,” she added, showing this journalist a demonstration of how the whiteboard table works.

It is hoped the fete will generate enough funds to purchase whiteboard tables for six classes, Denise said.

The disco-themed event has excited students and staff alike, with many planning to dress to the theme on the day, she said.

“We have multiple glitterballs ready for the event!” she added.

P&C representative Kathryn Tuck told Dubbo Photo News the local business community had gotten right behind the event, donating great items to be raffled.

“The generosity of local businesses has been overwhelming,” Kathryn said.

“The raffle is so substantial! It’s incredible.” Denise added, thanking the community for its support.

“It’s also lovely seeing teachers and students working together to develop their stalls,” Kathryn added.
