Intrepid Warren youngster Dusty Langby is off on the journey of his lifetime, trekking all the way to Canberra – raising awareness about and funds for the Little Wings Medical Wings Program.

The big walk also comes with a big fundraising target – $1 million – which will be used to help Little Wings medical transport program bring more paediatricians to communities out west.

The first stops on the Dollar For Dusty 16-day walkathon after it leaves Warren are the towns of Trangie and Narromine. Both communities have stepped up to support Dusty and his small band of walking buddies which includes his mum Sarah, Warren nurses Christine Letton and Nichole Callan, and Little Wings CEO Clare Pearson. A small support team is also accompanying the trekkers on the 540km journey.

Day one of the trek takes Dusty and his crew to Trangie, a journey of 55km. Trangie businesses have been busy running fundraising activities in support of the 12-year-old’s trip, including $100 Club tickets at the USMC.

Early the next morning, the walkers headed for Narromine, a distance of 37km. After overnighting in the town, a fundraising breakfast was planned by the Narromine Gorillas Junior Rugby Club at Soul Food Depot before the trekkers set off again on Tuesday for Tomingley, supplied with snacks for the next leg by the Narromine CWA.

Dusty and his companions are expected to arrive in Canberra on Monday, September 14, where he is expected to meet personally with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese the following day. Dusty will tell the PM about life in the bush and the urgent need for paediatricians, and without a doubt the plucky youngster will ask the PM to make a donation to the cause.

At the time of writing, Dusty had already raised about 13 per cent of his total fundraising target. However, it is hoped that as the trek continues, a lot more money will be donated as Dusty legs it for a very good cause.
