NSW Ambulance has strengthened its frontline workforce with the induction of 14 experienced paramedics from interstate and overseas, who began their on-road training on Saturday following a three-week orientation program.

The latest cohort, which complements the state’s locally-trained graduates, brings a diverse range of emergency health experience to the service. Among them is Natalie Barnes, who has returned to NSW Ambulance after seven years with the South Australia Ambulance Service.

“Moving back to NSW will give me excellent career progression and facilitate me becoming an extended care paramedic in the future,” she said, adding that returning home as a new mother meant “moving closer to family support is an added bonus”.

The recruits will spend the next nine weeks posted across metropolitan and regional NSW before beginning independent practice.

NSW Ambulance Chief Executive Dr Dominic Morgan said their arrival would help meet rising demand.

“These additional paramedics will help us continue to meet the growing demand for emergency medical services,” he said.

“The knowledge they bring will strengthen our clinical practice and enhance the care we provide to communities across NSW.”

All new paramedics undergo rigorous local training to meet the organisation’s clinical and operational standards.

Health Minister Ryan Park welcomed the intake.

“I am delighted to welcome a new wave of highly skilled paramedics from across the globe to NSW Ambulance,” he said.

“These paramedics bring a wealth of experience from diverse emergency health services – these invaluable skills will enhance the quality of pre-hospital care right here in NSW.”
