Not every regional centre in Australia is lucky enough to feature specialist vision surgeons of the calibre of Dr Angela Jennings and her team from personalEYES.

With the official opening this week of their new dedicated clinic at 3/34 Bultje Street, better vision is now looking even brighter in the bush!

One of Australia’s most prestigious doctor-owned eye surgeries, personalEYES — The Vision Specialists, offer their fully-equipped clinic, for the best care imaginable.

Managing Director of the group Dr Jennings — awarded the University Medal in Medicine upon graduation from the University of NSW — revealed that having one of their top surgeries located in western NSW was not simply a commercial decision.

“I grew up in the country, and worked in regional hospitals for some time after I graduated as a registrar, so I know how important having access to good eye care is, for people who live there,” Dr Jennings said.

“That’s one of the reasons why we opened our clinic on Dubbo over 10 years ago… one of our main drivers is to support the community,” she added.

Dr Jennings has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and regularly presents lectures on macular degeneration and other topics to optometrists, GPs, and the general public.

She was also Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead Hospital for a decade, where she greatly enjoyed helping train a new generation of ophthalmologists.

Operating for years by appointment out of rooms at the Dubbo Private Hospital, personalEYES have now made the next step with establishment of their new clinic in Dubbo’s central business district.

“We’re now in the main street, a move that will provide better access for people to our fully-equipped and dedicated clinic, staffed at all times,” Dr Jennings said proudly.

“We now have four specialists that come in for specialist operations, covering corneas, glaucoma, retinas, cataracts… this means that more people can now be treated in their community, which is very important for such surgery.”

Location of the clinic in the region also allows for more direct referrals for clients from allied health professionals in the district.

The practice also operates in professional liaison with both local public and private hospitals; and performs vital cataract surgeries locally. The clinic services the local community, five days a week.

“We work closely with both optometrists and GPs who prove many of our referrals, as they’re often the first people to pick up issues on a sense that is so central to our quality of life.

“While we do spend a lot more time looking at screens than people in previous generations, many of these issues, such as cataracts, are simply just age-related,” Dr Jennings said.

They are celebrating their new, fully-appointed clinic with a very special event held this week.

“Although we’ve been in our new premises since October last year, we’re having our official opening on Monday, April 8, with a number of our directors and professional colleagues in attendance,” Dr Jennings said.

“Because your vision is so important, we seek to provide absolute dedication and professionalism in all that we do, that’s our promise!”

Other surgeons who work from the practice, include:

  • A/Prof Chandra Bala — refractive, cataract and corneal ophthalmology and surgery;
  • Dr Peter Asimakis — cataract, corneal, and general surgery;
  • Dr. Adam Plant — vitreo-retinal, medical retina, and general surgery.
