Staff development days are not always the favourite occasions for educators usually focused on classroom teaching, but South Dubbo Primary School made their recent Term Three event a special occasion, focused around the unique attributes of a classic flower...

“Smell the Roses” was declared an opportunity to “celebrate success and look towards the future... to recognise the remarkable achievements of the school community,” a school spokesperson explained.

”The celebration reflected the pride and gratitude felt across the school following the completion of the school’s External Validation process, which resulted in an outstanding achievement of five Exceeding ratings across the School Excellence Framework,” the spokesperson said.

“Staff dressed in red to mark this significant milestone, creating a vibrant atmosphere of celebration and appreciation,” they added.

The day included shared meals, fashion awards, trivia, lucky door prizes, and “meaningful opportunities to acknowledge the dedication, teamwork and commitment that continue to make Dubbo South Public School such a special place.”

The day also provided a “wonderful reminder of the collective impact of the school community,” Dubbo South Principal Sharon Allman enthused.

“Smelling the Roses was about taking the time to recognise and celebrate the incredible work happening every day at Dubbo South,” she added.

The day was also an occasion for recognising the hard work put into the school by a number of committed teachers, assistants, and office personnel, she disclosed.

“Achieving five ‘Exceeding ratings through External Validation’ is a reflection of the passion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of our staff,” Mrs Allman said proudly.

“It represents the strong partnerships, high expectations and deep care that our leaders, teachers and support staff bring to their work each day for our students and families.”

The occasion also focused on the important work ahead with staff analysing current school data to begin shaping Strategic Directions of the new 2027–2031 School Excellence Plan. The aim is to ensure the school continues to build on its achievements and respond to the evolving needs of students.

“Our success is not just about what we have achieved; it is about how we continue to grow, learn and improve together,” Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction, Natalie Polak, believes.

“We are committed to creating joyful, enriching and high-impact learning experiences where every student is given opportunities and championed to thrive; the future at Dubbo South is incredibly exciting, and we look forward to continuing this journey together,” she concluded.
