Two teenage boys will face court next month after being charged over a string of alleged break and enters and stolen vehicle incident in the State’s north-west.

Officers from Central North Police District arrested the pair following investigations into five alleged offences committed in Brewarrina and Goodooga throughout March.

The incidents include alleged break-ins at a Brewarrina supermarket on Sunday, March 9, Saturday, March 15, and Saturday, March 29, as well as the alleged theft of a vehicle on Sunday, March 16. The car was later found abandoned on the outskirts of Brewarrina on Monday, March 17.

Police were also investigating a break-in at a community store in Goodooga on Monday, March 24.

Three boys, aged 13, 14 and 16, were arrested at the scene of the final alleged Brewarrina incident on Saturday, March 29. They were initially released without charge, pending further inquiries.

Following those inquiries, the 14- and 16-year-old boys were re-arrested on Friday, April 4, and taken to Bourke Police Station.

The younger teen was charged with six offences, including four counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling and steal in company. The 16-year-old faces six charges including damage to property and being carried in a stolen vehicle.

Both were granted conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Tuesday, May 6.

A 13-year-old boy remains outstanding.

According to a police statement, this investigation is part of Operation Soteria which was launched to address an escalation of violence in young offenders across Western and Northern parts of the State.
