Remoteness a risk factor amid rise in domestic killings

The number of women being killed is on the rise, with those in rural areas far more likely to be admitted to hospital after assaults, often at the hands of an intimate partner.

There were 63 homicides in 2022/23, up from 48 in 2017/18, according to a national report on injuries to women compiled by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
