60th wedding anniversary for Janice & Colin Smith

Colin Smith of Trangie married Janice Everingham of Narromine.

The first of their three daughters Tracee was born in Trangie.

Colin worked at Skinners Garage in Trangie and, weekends, he did farm work and fencing, with a home for his family, the priority.

Janice’s dad Arthur and brother Bruce built their first home in Narromine.

From there, Colin and Janice purchased eight acres of land at McNamara Lane called Edgerton, and Edgerton’s Nursery was born.

The nursery remained at this location for 15 years, becoming the wedding venue of Narromine and moving into Dandaloo Street, where Aqua Water is currently located.

Over the years, Janice and Colin have had six businesses in Narromine including the Liberty service station on the way to Dubbo, Style 33 Boutique, Spare Parts Shop, Comet Run, Sounds Unlimited Music and Video Shop, and Narromine Rural and Auto.

Friends of Janice, Gai Dugan and Pam Rees, would accompany her on trips to the Ag and Field days, presenting fashion stalls, which led to Gai and Janice opening Style 33 Boutiques in both Narromine and Millthorpe, Gai in the Millthorpe location and Janice in Narromine.

Style 33 Boutique in Narromine was eventually purchased by Michelle McDonald, a friend of Janice’s.

Janice, like many of her generation, worked daily from the age of 14 after she finished school, and continued to work well into her late 70s.

Colin Smith had Narromine Rural and Auto, which was his baby.

He loved every minute of his time there with friends dropping by to catch up. The drought of 1982 saw him sell the shop and another chapter began, with Colin and Bruce Pritchard building flats in Narromine and both working the service station.

Janice and Colin are both proud of their very full lives, blessed with three girls, Tracee, Michelle and Lyndall, who they believe have chosen partners well, with Dan, Greg, Steven and Alfred (deceased), the sons they never had.

Janice and Colin have six grandchildren: Jackson, Chelsea, Madison, Isaac, Mia and Delphi, and four great grandchildren: Harlan, Inara, Alucard and Harry.
