Carnivale comes to Dubbo

1 min read

Food from around the world, cultural presentations from here at home and overseas and thousands of people celebrating Dubbo’s genuine strength in diversity have hailed the city’s 2022 Cross Cultural Carnivale an extraordinary success.

The Orana Residents of Indian Sub-Continental Heritage (ORISCON) organisation, supports migrants from the Indian sub continental nations, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and diaspora from Fiji and South Africa.

ORISCON chair Gargi Ganguly told Dubbo Photo News the organisation holds several events across the year, but perhaps the most widely known among the wider community, is the annual Cross Cultural Carnivale held last Saturday, September 3, at Victoria Oval no 2.

“It was an amazing evening of friendship, fellowship and festivity,” she said.

“This event contributes to the diversity that makes Dubbo a great place to live.”

MC and former Dubbo mayor Stephen Lawrence said it was an incredible experience.

“So much fun being the MC tonight of the ORISCON cross cultural festival in Dubbo. My co-MC was Lyn Riley. Last act was the Bhangra group, the crowd went wild! Incredible food!

“Congratulations to the hard-working committee and the community who turned out in big numbers," Mr Lawrence said.
