Action at Dubbo Croquet was a little busier than usual last week. This included a review of the previous night‘s good work, the quarterly lunch date for members and, in the evening, the regular training session.
We attended Dubbo Regional Council’s new residents’ evening on Tuesday, March 17, which secretary, Ray Doyle, and club captain, Charles Campbell, attended. Dubbo Croquet Club has attended many of these events for a decade with a small demonstration green a feature of the club’s presentation. There was a strong level of interest and several individuals – as well as or as representative of schools, interest and advocacy groups, and businesses – indicated their intention to take up our offer of an introductory session.
Wednesday included members enjoying our quarterly lunch, which is a great chance to enjoy a terrific meal and an opportunity to further promote friendships away from the courts, and a great way to engage with members.
We went to Club Dubbo where the meals were excellent, the service polished and unobtrusive, and the whole experience was delightful and unrushed. The catch up was convivial and an opportunity to get to know each other better, without talking about croquet.
Wednesday evenings during daylight saving time, Dubbo Croquet Club also opens from 7pm to allow members the chance to spend an hour or more practicing skills, getting advice from one of our coaches, and setting performance goals. This addresses both training (getting better at a particular skill) and coaching (receiving advice on rules, strategies, and techniques). The Wednesday evening sessions also cater for beginners.
We also welcome anyone who is thinking about a new pastime and wants a try-and-see experience without obligation and free of cost. Want to know more? See our listing in the Dubbo Photo News Community Diary under Multiple Days.
