Round Three action in the inaugural Christie and Hood Castlereagh Community Cup competition kicked off when Mendooran Tigers and Gulargambone Galahs clashed in front of a good crowd at Robertson Oval in Dunedoo.

The Galahs got wins in both the Ladies League Tag by 24-12, and in the men’s league by 24-4.

The win by Gulargambone in the men’s, followed by the 30-8 victory by Walgett over Trangie in the match played at Trangie, set up a tantalising top-of-the-table Round Four battle between the Galahs and the Dragons at Gulargambone with the minor premiership going to the victor.

Adding spice to the contest, is the fact that the two sides fought-out a thrilling 14-14 draw last time that they met.

Meanwhile, at the Castlereagh League Tag Knockout played at Cobar, the Dunedoo Swannettes gave every indication that they will again be the side to beat in the 2026 competition. This is after they put in some impressive displays to make it back-to-back knockout titles and scoring a mammoth 106 points while only conceding a total of four points against in their four games over the day.

Whilst the Swannettes were dominant, they certainly were made to work hard in the final by a Gulgong team that signalled that they will also be in for a productive season, battling hard with the final score being 12-0.

The on-field action continues after the Easter break with the final round games of the Community Cup competition being played at Gulargambone and Trangie. This will coincide with the Castlereagh League knock-out for First Grade and Youth League sides at Gulgong on Saturday, April 11.
