Dubbo athletes were high on the list of achievers at the recent Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) held its annual presentation evening at Panthers Club in Bathurst.
Award categories for the presentation evening included; Strength & Conditioning, Coach’s Award, Outstanding Achievement by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, Chairman’s Nominees for Excellence and the Squad Athlete of the Year for each program.
Top district sports winners included local lass, Jazzy Gordon in basketball, Mason Weir and Emerson Hartley, also in basketball, and Emily Hines in cycling. The Strength and Conditioning Award for the most dedicated or improved athlete in S&C sessions, also went to Arthur Skinner.
In an unusual result, three WRAS athletes tied for the major award, the 2026 WRAS Athlete of the Year, these being Dylan Ruming in (Athletics), Sophia Urquhart in BMX, and Henry Kross in Squash.
The Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) supports talented young pre-elite athletes across the Central West by delivering high-performance training, sports science education, and mentoring.
Established in 1991 and based in Bathurst, it bridges the gap between local club sport and elite state or national representation.
