A total of eight teams from the Dubbo Devils representative football club are set to showcase their skills on the national stage as they prepare to compete in the prestigious Kanga Cup this weekend.

This renowned tournament, held annually in Canberra, attracts teams from across Australia and around the globe, promising fierce competition and exhilarating matches.

The Dubbo Devils, who represent Dubbo in the Western Youth League, are well-known for their tenacity and team spirit, as well as their success on the field. All teams have been training hard for this year’s Kanga Cup, Dubbo Devils coordinator Matt Stonestreet revealed.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our players to test themselves against some of the best teams in the country,” Matt said.

“All the teams have put in a huge effort with fund-raising and organising the logistics to get these players to Canberra,” he added.

The Devils' journey to the Kanga Cup has been marked by dedication and hard work, with players committing themselves to training and competing in the Western Youth League Competition which wrapped up last Sunday.

For many of the team members, this will be their first experience competing in a tournament of this calibre, adding an extra layer of excitement and anticipation to their preparations.

The Kanga Cup, known not only for its high-level competition but also for its emphasis on fair play and sportsmanship, promises to be a memorable experience for the Dubbo Devils and their supporters.

Families and fans from Dubbo are expected to travel to Canberra to cheer on their team, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere throughout the tournament.

“Our contingent consists of 112 players, 16 coaches and managers, a group of Dubbo referees plus all our supporters,” Matt enthused.

“Last year, we had two teams play in the Cup, this year, we have eight; it shows how much the Kanga Cup is regarded as one of the premium tournaments in Australia,” he added.

As the Devils make their final preparations ahead of their opening matches, excitement is palpable within the team and across the Dubbo community.

The Kanga Cup represents more than just a tournament – it's a chance for the Devils to showcase the talent and determination that define their football club and to make their mark on the national football scene.

“The Kanga Cup kicks off in Canberra on Sunday, July 7, with the opening ceremony, the Dubbo Devils set to play their first matches on Monday morning,” Matt said.
