As dawn broke on Sunday August 16, one could see, with perhaps a squint, the mighty Ducks descending like meteors to splash down in the warm and inviting waters of the Dubbo RSL indoor pool to have some fun and to complete their preparations for the upcoming Tom Flynn Iron Man.

The swimmers were presented with a five-event card.

A 25m freestyle is a regular opener most Sunday morning meetings. Alan Quin too quick saw Shaun Graham take first, Peter Hargreaves second, Katharine O’Rourke third and Ron Everett fourth.

The second event was a brace relay of 2x25m breaststroke/freestyle. The combination of Mark Prentice/Brian Schloeffel too fast, Neil Harris/Rob Rich took the win followed in by Warren Williams/Mal Cavanagh second, Tom Gray/John Wherritt third, and Amy/Matilda Barling in fourth.

A 25m butterfly 'at Go’ slotted in as the third event. A well controlled Mark Prentice touched in first with (-0.07), Katharine O’Rourke second (0.19), the Warren Williams (0.48), Jack Allen (0.72) and Peter Hargreaves (1.17).

The fourth event was a 25m backstroke with heats and then a final in which Warren Williams, Tom Gray and Rob Rich forgot all about the clock and raced each other out of contention to then see Mark Prentice and Peter Hargreaves glow with the satisfaction of having taken first and second place.

The fifth event on the card was a 25m breastroke ‘at Go’. The top five all coming in within just over half a second from their marks. Jack Allen (0.02), Katharine O’Rourke (0.18), Shaun Graham (0.39), Rob Rich (0.53) and Mark Prentice (0.54).

Lucky numbers: Jack Allen and Mal Cavanagh. Thanks to Greg, Judy, David, Mark and Ken for all their help on the pool deck.
