Some distance sporting festivals are serious competitive trials involving elite athletes testing their physical limits, others are happy-go-lucky fun runs for the whole family.

Dubbo Stampede, though, is in the unique position where it manages to be both!

With up to 1800 runners ready to hit the road for next Sunday's, September 6 event, the “horses for courses” model seems to be working. With races ranging from gentle strolls around the course to full-on marathons, Dubbo Stampede has an event for everyone.

Races this year comprise the “Westfund Meerkat Mile” for Under 12s over 1.6km; the “Wils Wallaby Wheel, Walk, Run”, an inclusive event for everyone over just 1km; the “Hertz 5km Dingo Dash”; the intermediate “Dubbo Automotive 10km Cheetah Chase”; the half-marathon “Lyons Project Management 21.1km Zebra Zoom”; and the “Totally Workwear 42.2km Rhino Ramble”.

Students are also invited to enter the “Regional Australia Bank Schools Challenge” with the chance to win up to $500 in cash and ultimate bragging rights in the district.

This section is broken up into three categories, small schools of under 250 students, medium schools form 250–450 pupils, and large schools with more than 450 enrolments.

No longer based at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the festival is set along the Macquarie River, starting and finishing at Ollie Robbins Oval. With certified courses and a range of distances, the event is designed to be accessible and welcoming for participants of all ages and abilities.

The Stampede offers a unique experience with the half and full marathon courses passing through the zoo, while others follow the river trails, showcasing Dubbo at its best.

The event is about health, wellbeing and community, bringing locals and visitors together for a day that celebrates participation as much as performance.

Race Kits can be collected on Saturday, September 5, from 1–4pm at Ollie Robbins Oval on Bligh Street.

On the day, parking is available on Bligh Street and the carparks adjoining with carpooling early arrival recommended. Also, check your event start time and plan to be at the start line at least 15 minutes prior and ensure you are familiar with the course, aid station locations, and cut-off times.

Toilets, 1km/5km markers, water and aid stations will be on all courses with medical support and course marshals positioned throughout to ensure runner safety.

Only registered participants are permitted on the course. For events that pass through Taronga Western Plains Zoo, spectators must hold valid zoo entry.

Training plans are available for selected distances to help you prepare for race day, whether you are building up to your first event or aiming for a personal best.
