A beautiful spring morning couldn’t deflect the domestic disharmony that appeared this morning when 37 bowlers took to the greens at Sporties for the RSL Combination Bowls on Sunday, August 30.

Enjoying his fudge, Gordon Scott, however, continues to show good form as a skip. This week he combined with Maurice Wallace and Dick Whitford to beat Ron Weigold, Terese Gaio and Ricky See, 20–8.

The experienced Julie Brown combined with Ray Strawhan and Mel Giddings to beat Sue McCauley, Leo Balstad and Pete Sinclair for second place. Pete’s team was ahead by two at the halfway mark but unfortunately they couldn’t hang on, with Julie’s team scoring 14 in the second half.

Welcome back to Gaye Cottee, who combined with Ken Whitaker and Glennis Hangan to claim third place. They were too strong for Mary Perry, Kerri Dickson and Trish Gosper, winning 21–15.

In a nail biter, Matt Quill led Ron McCauley and Ros Joseph to a two-point win over Gavin Cullen, Paul Wooldridge and The Phantom, Paul Goodstat, 15–13.

In the first of two pairs games, Steve Kelly and Chris Stronjy had to come from behind to beat Shirley Marchant and Michael Strawhan, 19–17. Having won 11 ends to five, Mick’s team was unlucky to lose eight on the last end.

I’m told Ross Pharo was “on fire” in his pairs game. He combined with Bryan O’Sullivan to beat Chris Sinclair and Mike Twohill 15–11. Scores were level on the ninth and 13th ends, but Ross’s experience under pressure made all the difference.

Eric Satchell and Frank Armstrong had a come-from-behind last-end win over Tracey Keenan and Col Cottee. Gary Huggins was the swinger and although Col’s team won the ends, Frank’s team won the shots 14–13.

Showing good form, Juile Brown was credited with the only rester this week. Lucky numbers went to Pete Sinclair, Chris Stronjy and Frank Armstrong.

As always, new and casual players are most welcome and our club contact details can be found under Sunday in the Dubbo Photo News Community Diary.
