Our two West Dubbo Roos’ pennant teams unfortunately didn’t have the results they were hoping for at the State Pennant Finals last weekend, bringing the curtain down on the 2026 pennant season.

Our Grade 2 side finished without a win from their three sectional matches, going down to Northmead, Cabramatta and Lismore.

One rink certainly flew the Roos’ flag proudly, with Gavin Dart, Hayley Sharpe, Grant Gudmunson and Warren Towney recording a fantastic three wins from three games.

A huge congratulations to young Hayley Sharpe, who was having her first taste of State Pennant Finals and was voted the team MVP. A terrific achievement and a great experience for one of our younger bowlers. A big thank you also to Bruce Baker for managing and looking after the team throughout the finals.

Our Grade 4 side finished with one win and two losses, with one of those defeats coming by just four shots. Their standout rink was Marg Rich, Daniel Morris, Brad Barrow and Greg Collin, who also produced an outstanding effort by recording three wins from three games.

A huge thank you to Club President Steve Ryan for managing and looking after the Grade 4 team. We also sincerely thank all the supporters who travelled away to cheer on both teams.

That brings our 2026 Pennant season to an end. A massive thank you to every player, manager, selector and scorer who contributed throughout the season.

Attention now turns back to West Dubbo, where this Friday, Saturday and Sunday we host our prestigious 31st Ladies Classic Pairs. We have a tremendous field of 36 teams competing for $20,000 in prizemoney, including a huge $7,000 first prize.

The field includes players travelling from all parts of NSW, along with Commonwealth Games representatives and Australian representatives, making for three days of top-class bowls. Play gets underway at 9.15am Friday morning, with the tournament concluding around 1pm Sunday. Come down to West Dubbo and enjoy some outstanding women’s bowls!

This Sunday, following the completion of the Ladies Classic Pairs, we will crown our Open Gender Singles Champion. The four remaining players are Di Wilson, Gavin Dart, Grant Gudmunson, and Craig Jeffery.

A blind draw will take place when the players arrive to determine the semi-final match-ups, with the final to follow immediately afterwards.

The Minor Pairs is now down to the final four teams, with the semi-finals to be played on Saturday, September 5. Nathan Goodridge and Dan Morris VS Kelly Dart and Steve Ryan; and Dave McGrath and Col Teale VS Aileen Beecroft and John Fardell. Good luck to all four teams!

The Men’s Major/Minor Pairs Final will also be played on Saturday, September 5, at 1pm. Barry Fernando and Mick Smith will take on Nathan Collis and Gavin Dart. It should be another cracking club championship final.

The Men’s and Women’s Minor Singles will commence on Saturday, September 5, depending on players who are still involved in the Minor Pairs.

Voting for the Club Limited and Bowling Board elections begins from September 1, with designated voting times available for members. A reminder also that the Club AGM will also be held on Sunday, September 13, at 10am.
