At the well-attended recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), Matt Brown was re-elected president of the Narromine Golf Club for the second year.
The AGM was held on the same night as the presentation of championship trophies won during the 2025 year.
President Matt presented his annual report for the year, which included a financial report from the club accountants, Ryan and Rankmore. He also expressed appreciation for the work carried out by everyone on behalf of the club and course, including the committee, volunteers, the ladies’ committee, and all members for their ongoing support.
Club Captain Alex Sambrook presented his report on a very successful year, including some interesting statistics. Some 85 competitions were played with 1271 players taking part; and 77 players took part in the Open Tournament representing 13 towns. He also thanked Peter Gainsford and Peter Hutchinson and the volunteers who kept the course in top condition during the year.
The newly elected committee for 2026 includes president Matt Brown, vice-president Ray Anning, treasurer/secretary Stephen Buckley, captain Alex Sambrook, vice-captain Craig Duff, directors Peter Gainsford, Peter Hutchinson, James O’Connor, and Stephen Squires.
During the meeting, president Matt Brown advised that the board had recommended to the meeting that Dale and Chris Harding be awarded Life Membership of the club. The motion was carried unanimously. Congratulations, Dale and Chris.
A little story on this popular couple who have worked tirelessly for the golf club during their time in Narromine.
Dale, Chris and their two children arrived in Narromine some 40 years ago for Chris to take up a job as a teacher at Narromine High School. Word soon got around that Chris was a pretty good rugby league player, having played for Featherstone Rovers in England. He was soon signed up to the Narromine Jets where he won two first grade and one reserve grade premierships with the Jets.
After retiring from football, Chris joined Dale on the golf course and they have been active golfers ever since. They have also been very active working for the club in a voluntary manner. Chris has served on the board of directors as president, captain, treasurer and committee member, and while working with Dale installed a computer system for the recording of scores and handling handicaps.
Dale has been involved with the ladies’ division of the Club and has served as ladies’ president, captain and secretary, and also as an organiser of catering for major tournaments and functions.
It is also noted Dale was awarded the Senior Citizen of the Year award by the Narromine Shire at the recent Australia Day celebrations.
Congratulations, and thank you both for your efforts on behalf of the golf club and also the population of Narromine.
