RSL Combination Bowls at Sporties last week welcomed 33 competitors to a great morning involving a pairs game and five triples, one with a swinging lead.

Top spot for the day was taken out by the team of Paul ”The Phantom” Goodstat, John Kennedy and Ron Wiegold, who were very impressive and quite ruthless in their win over Tim Moore, Vicki Hummel and Trish Gosper. The score was 27-3.

“Some days are diamonds, some days are stones” pretty much sums up the match between Frank Armstrong, Ruby Stockings and Mary Perry, playing against Ron McCauley, Chris Stronjy and Col Cottee. Frank’s team powered through the first eight and were non forgiving as they kept going to the end to claim second place winning 29-5.

An impressive ‘5’ on the 14th end helped consolidate third place for Pete Sinclair and his team of Ken Whittaker and Jenni Spratt, who beat Kerri Dickson, Shirley Marchant and Brian Jones 25-7.

A pairs game between Rob Pfeiffer and Ros Joseph and Ray Strawhan and Steve Kelly was a lot closer. With only three points in it at half time, the result could have gone either way but Rob and Ros were too strong going on to win 20-13.

It was a hard day at the office for Mick Strawhan, who played with Chris Sinclair and Rachael Karanga against Maurice Wallace, Ross Pharo and Phil Knight. We are often reminded there are two halves to a game and although Mick's team outscored Phil’s in the second half, they couldn’t quite catch them, going down by two. The final score was 11-13.

Lucky Leo Balstad accepted the honours of swinger this week, playing for Graham Ross and Eric Satchell and also with Pat Ryan and Paul Wooldridge. Graham's team won 17-12 and 10 ends to six.

Vicki Hummel was credited with the only rester this week and lucky numbers went to Ken Whittaker, Shirley Marchant and Paul Wooldridge.
