There is plenty happening on and off the greens at Club Dubbo, with club championships progressing, State Pennant Finals continuing and three massive tournaments coming our way over the next six weeks.

The Open Gender Singles Championships kicked off last Saturday, with 30 players contesting 10 sections of three. The 10 section winners were:Mick Smith, Grant Gudmunson, Greg Collin, Dan Morris, Di Wilson, Dave McGrath, Gavin Dart, Tim Wilkinson, Craig Jeffery and John Silk.

Following the first round of finals, we are now down to five players: Grant Gudmunson, Greg Collin, Di Wilson, Gavin Dart, and Craig Jeffery. Grant Gudmunson and Greg Collin will play off on Sunday, August 30, with the winner joining Di Wilson, Gavin Dart and Craig Jeffery in the semi-finals.

Unfortunately, the opening round of the Minor Pairs Championships was washed out last Sunday. The matches have now been rescheduled for this Saturday morning. Social Bowls Results: Numbers were down last Wednesday with many of our ladies and men away contesting the State Pennant Finals, but we still had 22 players enjoying an afternoon of bowls. The winning combination was the ladies’ team of Hela Bryna, Averial Cox and Ros Gilholme, who just pipped the men's pairing of Trevor Shaperham and Neil Riley. The lucky players’ draw went to Steve Evans. Friday produced some great bowls in perfect winter conditions, including one very big winning score! The runaway winners were Bill van der Mey, John Fardell and G Ross. Finishing a distant second were Tony Leonard and John Mackenzie. Tony Leonard also had another win, taking out the lucky players’ draw.

State Pennant Finals: Our ladies produced another terrific performance at the State Pennant Finals, progressing all the way through to the last eight in NSW before being defeated by a strong Nambucca Heads combination. The ladies can certainly hold their heads high. For a country club to finish among the final eight teams in the State is a tremendous achievement and something everyone at West Dubbo should be proud of. Unfortunately, things didn't go our way for our men's side at Griffith, with the boys losing all three games against some outstanding opposition. They gave everything they had against quality teams and represented the club proudly throughout the championships.

Attention now turns to our Open Gender Pennant sides, with the State Finals only two weeks away. Grade 2 – Merrylands Grade 4 – Nowra/Bomaderry. Both sides will have an important hit-out this Sunday morning at Dubbo Macquarie, taking on Dubbo City No. 3 and a Dubbo Macquarie combination. Full bowls uniform required.

Three massive events are coming to Club Dubbo! The next six weeks are going to be huge, with three major tournaments heading our way. The long-running West Dubbo Women's Classic Pairs (August 28-30) returns with more than $20,000 in prize money and another outstanding field featuring Australian, NSW and ACT players. Two weeks later, Dubbo welcomes the 17th National Diggers Carnival, with more than 50 teams expected to compete. Club Dubbo will once again proudly co-host the carnival with Dubbo Macquarie Bowling Club.

Then comes the biggest event on our calendar! The Inland Petroleum City of Dubbo International Fours returns with an incredible $150,000 prize money on offer. The field will feature World, Australian, State and leading local players, with 168 bowlers coming together for three massive days of competition. It's shaping up to be an unbelievable six weeks of bowls at Club Dubbo – Home of the West Dubbo Roos!
