Dubbo College and NSW CHS Squash champion Sophie Simpson was part of the Blues team that competed in the National Tournament in Qld last week.
College Sports Coordinator Craig May couldn’t wait to get onto message with the good news:
“Congratulations to Dubbo College Year 11 student Sophie Simpson who has been selected in the Australian Schools Squash Team! Sophie’s selection came after her performances for the Blues at the Interstate Trans-Tasman Squash Challenge held in Brisbane. Well done Sophie on an amazing accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of you, your future’s so bright!”
A youngster from Geurie, Sophie was one of 41 young athletes granted a Commonwealth Games Scholarship after claiming the NSW State title at the end of last year.
The five-person Australian team squared off against the New Zealanders on Friday but unfortunately, despite performing with team great pride and skill in the green and gold, they were not able to wrest the trophy from our friends across the ditch!
