A huge turnout of Jiu Jitsu practitioners attended the Dubbo visit by UFC veteran and Jiu Jitsu black-belt Anthony "The Hippo" Perosh last Saturday, November 22.
Around 60 people attended the event, which was hosted by Dubbo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach Jerryn Biles, who has been an affiliate of The Hippo’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) school located in Sydney teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA and wrestling.
"We had an amazing turnout for the event” Biles said.
“There were attendees from Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange and all over the Central West – as well as some people from Sydney, which was awesome.”
The Hippo taught the attendees covering techniques to control an opponent on the ground, as well as some of the complexities of the leg-lock game. Participants got to work in pairs and in groups to practice and hone the techniques taught.
“I was amazed at the skill level of the participants,” Perosh said.
“Jiu Jitsu is very strong in Dubbo and the Central West, and Jerryn’s coaching abilities are largely responsible for the growth and strength of Jiu Jitsu in the local area," he added.
On the day, Perosh also presented Biles with his black belt.
“This award puts Jerryn in the upper echelon of Jiu Jitsu practitioners in Australia,” Perosh explained.
Based on the success of the event, another is planned for 2026. To get involved with Dubbo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, follow the club on social media and their website.
