Nyngan celebrated 70 years of rugby union with a home grand final win over last year’s conquerors Walgett on Saturday.

In the ladies’ game, the Flamin’ Galahs also ended five years of heartache to take the Western Plains Tri-Tag title from Coonamble Rams.

In a gripping game, the Flamin’s chased down the premiers with two late tries to snatch the title 19-14 and set the popular pink and grey birds squawking!

To top off a great day for the Gulargambone Rugby Club, Sarah Chandler was named Player of the Grand Final while Paige Wilson was voted the Western Plains Player of the Season.

Wes Vati from Nyngan was also voted best on field in the grand final, while Gular’s young player, Nick Tancred was awarded Player of the Year.
