I went to see the completed station as some finishing touches were being added. The upgrade is impressive. It includes improved accessible infrastructure. But for me it is the attention to detail in maintaining the history of this Heritage-listed building. The doors into the station are automatic but again do not distract from the building -- look like part of the original structure. The counter in the office has been recreated to look like the original counter from when the building was first built.
Built between 1879 and 1881 the main building is still very much intact and functional. Additions were made including a lamp room, wool stage and grain shed. With expanded additions for buses into and out of Dubbo, the station is something that we in Dubbo can be proud of. If you have not been down to see the changes, please, go and look. I travel by train when I can and have been delighted to see the improvements made.
