Filmmaking enthusiasts gathered at the Dubbo RSL Theatrette last Saturday night for the annual One Eye Film Festival.
Ten of the 17 short films screened at the event were locally produced, showing the strength and depth of local film making in the region. Of the remaining films, six were Australian-produced short films and one was international.
Some of the filmmakers were present for the festival, including 17-year-old Eleftherios F. Tsitsiras who travelled from Melbourne with his very proud family to see the inaugural screening of his six-minute short film, "Crossroads".
"This is my second film, and I'm excited to see it screen here for the first time," he told Dubbo Photo News.
Another young film director, Lana McLaurin, was present to see her five-minute film "Dear Diary" screened for the first time at the festival. Lana and several of her friends collaborated to make the film, with days and days of planning and rehearsing culminating in a film shoot lasting several hours to produce the short feature.
“It was a long process, and it's really encouraging to see that people who haven't done anything within that industry can just pick it up and learn from YouTube or Instagram or whatever they find; just download a free app and create!” she said.
Kellie Jennar, president of Dubbo Filmmakers, thanked the community for supporting the event and the creative filmmaking community.
"Filmmakers, create films to share stories with audiences, and having live screenings like this to share with the wider community is really important," Kellie said.
"So thank you so much for coming out and buying a ticket and supporting local filmmaking."
